PSYCHIATRY

Dr. Jeffrey BenzickDr. Jeffrey Benzick
is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with special interests in Sport Psychiatry and Attention-Deficit spectrum illnesses. His practice is founded on the idea that Psychiatric medication such as antidepressants or mood stabilizers, if used at all, must be chosen thoughtfully and kept to a minimum. Medication helps with symptoms such as depression, anxiety, tension, and mood swings; once these are under control, the individual can focus on the other life issues contributing to their health, work or home problems.

Dr. Benzick is a summa cum laude graduate of Texas A&M University.  He then attended Baylor College of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency in Psychiatry while serving on active duty as an Air Force Flight Surgeon. It was his work with Special Forces personnel that sparked the interest in treating athletes.

Following a year stationed in Korea, he returned to San Antonio and joined the teaching faculty in the joint military/civilian program with the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. He opened his private practice in 2004, and remains an Associate Professor of Psychiatry with the Medical School.

He enjoys triathlon and marathon training. More information about Dr. Benzick is available on his web site.

He works with individuals (children, teens, adults), couples, and families.

In addition, he is a certified vocational counselor through the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, which is helpful to those seeking a job or career change.
